This week at the Alliance

Office: Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm. In immediate danger, call 911. In a mental-health crisis, call or text 988. For any other local help, dial 211.

Food pantry

  • Tuesday 4pm–7pm
  • Saturday 9am–noon

Walk in, no appointment. It is a choice pantry: you shop the shelves like a small market rather than being handed a box.

Bring

  • A photo ID if you have one
  • Something with your address on it (a bill, lease or letter) — first visit only

No one is turned away on a first visit, with or without paperwork. We will sort it out together. Once a week, per household.

We serve zip codes

23112 · 23113 · 23114 · 23120 · 23234 · 23235 · 23236 · 23237 · 23831 · 23832 · 23836 · 23838

Outside those zip codes? Come once anyway, and we will point you to the pantry closest to you (211 Virginia lists them all).

Homebound or 60 and over without a ride: volunteers deliver a pantry bag twice a month. Call the office to be added.

Got a shutoff notice?

Got a disconnect notice? Call Dominion Energy first at 1-866-366-4357 and ask for a payment arrangement — that alone often stops the shutoff.

  • Dominion EnergyShare. Apply through Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services. Not based on income; if you are under 60 you need the disconnect notice.
  • Virginia Energy Assistance (crisis). Heating crisis help November 1 – March 15; cooling help June 15 – August 15 for households with someone 60+, disabled, or under 6. Apply at commonhelp.virginia.gov or (855) 635-4370.

Our Neighbor Fund can cover a small gap — up to $150 on one utility bill, once a year — while an application is pending. A staff member reviews each request by phone; nothing about your situation is needed in chat.

Volunteer

  • Tuesday pantry 3:30pm–7:30pm
  • Saturday pantry 8:30am–12:30pm
  • Delivery drivers twice a month, your own car

Groups of up to 15 on Saturdays — book two weeks ahead so the shift is built around you. Offices, teams, scouts and congregations all welcome.

Ages 14 and up; under 18 with a parent-signed waiver, and under 16 with an adult on the shift. Community service or school hours? We sign the forms.

What "same week" actually looked like in January

A neighbor called about a utility shutoff notice on a Tuesday. By Thursday, three volunteers had the bill covered through the emergency assistance fund and a warm-meal delivery set up for the rest of the month. No intake form longer than a phone call.

Mostly volunteers. All neighbors.

Two paid staff and about sixty regular volunteers — if you show up on a Saturday, these are the people who'll hand you a clipboard.

Staff and volunteers of the alliance gathered in the fellowship hall.
Saturday crew, Chesterfield fellowship hall.
Volunteers handing a box of fresh produce to a neighbor at a food drive.
Produce distribution runs every other Saturday, rain or shine.

Team shown is illustrative — Chesterfield Neighbors Alliance is a demo organization, not a real one.

VOLUNTEER SIGN-UP — OPEN SLOTS

Get involved this week

Call us, or open the AI community assistant — it knows our pantry hours, what to bring, volunteer shifts and where to turn with a shutoff notice.

What this looks like for a real nonprofit or church

The pantries and churches we looked at post their distribution days and eligibility rules in an FAQ that is open only when someone reads it, and the office is open a few weekday hours. This assistant answers from that same page at 9pm on a Sunday: which Saturday the pantry is open, what to bring, how to volunteer as a group. It never asks someone to prove they qualify, and it hands help requests and sign-ups to a person, through the tools you already use.

Today

  1. The same questions all week: pantry hours, what to bring, which zip codes you serve.
  2. A volunteer or the administrator answers each one by phone.
  3. Someone with a shutoff notice waits for a callback.

With an AI receptionist

  1. It answers the routine questions from what you publish.
  2. Anyone in danger is sent to 911 or 988 first, and it never asks about income or eligibility.
  3. Urgent needs go to a staff member for a callback.

What the phone costs you in time

Example numbers. Change them to yours.
